Can I substitute brandy for cognac in a cooking recipe?

The recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of cognac. I only have brandy in my pantry, so I wondered if it would really alter the taste.

Brandy is a fine substitute for cognac and it wont alter the taste so that it is noticeable.

Cognac is brandy.

As Cognac is a type of brandy (named after the region in France that it originates), it should be completely fine.

Enjoy the end result!

Certainly, two tablespoons certainly won't make a noticeable difference, and brandy and cognac are closely related as it is.
